🛡️ The Debasement Trade Is Back

Gold and Bitcoin ETFs pulled in a combined $7 billion over five trading days this week. Bloomberg's Eric Balchunas called it a record for any 5-day stretch, with both funds landing in the top 10 US ETFs by weekly inflow.

IBIT's year-to-date flows just turned positive again, clawing back from a hole that had it bleeding money for most of the year.

Same trade, same reason. Investors are treating fixed supply as the point, not a footnote, as US debt clears $40 trillion and the dollar keeps softening.

🟠 Saylor Sat This One Out

Strategy bought zero Bitcoin last week, extending a pause that's now run over a month. The company sold $2 billion in MSTR shares instead, padding its dollar reserve and buying back preferred stock.

Steven Lubka thinks that's the bullish read. If the rally keeps running while Saylor sits on his hands, it means other buyers are the ones carrying it now, not him.

Bitcoin cleared $80,000 the same week Strategy stayed on the sidelines.

🔓 Chinese Hackers Were Inside the Fed

The Justice Department said Wednesday it disrupted a Chinese hacking operation that broke into or attempted to breach the Fed, NASA, the DOJ itself, the Senate, the Department of Energy, and HHS. The DOJ seized domains for two hacking platforms, QScan and QTRouter, tied to a Nanjing-based tech firm.

The campaign reportedly ran since at least 2018. The Chinese embassy said it "firmly opposes and combats all forms of cyberattacks," the same line Beijing gives every time this happens.

This is the system Bitcoin exists as an alternative to. Not a metaphor, a literal admission that foreign actors have been sitting inside the institution that sets the price of money.

⚛️ Bitcoin's First Quantum-Safe Transaction

A StarkWare researcher got a quantum-resistant Bitcoin transaction mined on mainnet this week, block 964,199, no soft fork or hard fork required. The method, called QSB, rebuilds the signature using existing Bitcoin Script rather than any new opcode.

There's a real catch. Ordinary nodes won't relay the transaction because the format is nonstandard, so it had to be handed directly to a miner, MARA's Slipstream service, to get confirmed. It's also slow and expensive, nothing close to ready for a wallet near you.

StarkWare is calling it a stopgap, not a fix. The real answer is still a protocol-level upgrade like BIP-360. This is proof the door exists, not proof anyone's using it yet.

⚡ Update Your Lightning Node Now

Core Lightning shipped 26.06.7 this week and every CLN node runner should install it. The release patches vulnerabilities that surfaced over the past three weeks, during a spike in AI-generated bug reports hitting open source Bitcoin projects.

The fixes are real. Details stay under embargo for two weeks so the exploits don't get weaponized before most nodes update. When the release lands, verify the signature and install the signed binary without delay. If you can't update immediately, restart with --offline rather than leaving a node exposed.

This is the second AI-flagged Lightning scramble this month, after Boltz shut off swaps following a string of AI-assisted attacks. The pattern is becoming the story as much as any single bug.

VIDEO OF THE WEEK

Bitcoin just broke a major 5-year trend against gold as institutional capital, family offices, and global liquidity begin rotating into hard assets. With Bitcoin up 25% in August, record Bitcoin and gold fund inflows, the 4-year cycle thesis under pressure, and Wall Street now modeling $500,000 Bitcoin, is a new Bitcoin supercycle already underway?
