Buying bitcoin and then pledging it to a counterparty who can lend it out is not a bitcoin treasury strategy. It's a bet on the price with someone else holding the asset. Not your keys. Not your coins. And how many bitcoin are there really?

But the direction is worth noting. BlackRock is not done building Bitcoin products. They launched the spot ETF, it became the fastest-growing ETF in history, and now they're expanding the product line for income-oriented investors who want bitcoin exposure without just holding it.

This exact story runs every 12 to 18 months. Each time, the framing is roughly the same: quantum computers are coming, Bitcoin's encryption could be vulnerable, the timeline is uncertain but the threat is real.

What the coverage leaves out: Bitcoin developers have been working on post-quantum cryptography for years. The protocol can be upgraded. It has been upgraded before. The question is not whether Bitcoin can adapt, it's whether the timeline gives developers enough runway, and current estimates suggest it does.
